Gaslight - Fazenda Fumas
Coffee has always been the family business for Rinaldo de Castro Junqueria. His great-grandfather was a laborer on a coffee farm, his grandfather was the first in the family to own his own farm, a piece of which was passed down to Rinaldo’s fater. After a time of producing commodity-grade coffee, Rinaldo and his father decided to sell the farm, invest in a new piece of land called Fazenda Furnas, and begin focusing on specialty-grade coffee.
After beginning a career in engineering, Rinaldo came back to the farm to help during an extended illness of his father and quickly fell back in love with the coffee business. Today he is experimenting with new processing methods, has been a finalist in several Cup of Excellence competitions, and is the president of COCARIVE, the local coffee-growers cooperative association. We have offered this coffee a couple of times over the years and are impressed with the continual improvements he has made. In this harvest we are tasting hints of dark chocolate, candied pecan, and lemon.
